Primary Objective
Kalamazoo College is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, creative individual to support the Ceramics/Sculpture faculty in the Art and Art History Department. Internally referred to as a post-baccalaurate fellow in Art, this position reports to the Ceramics/Sculpture faculty, or other faculty as assigned, this position is expected to begin in January 2025 and conclude in June 2025.

Responsibilities and Priorities
Location & Schedule
- Approximately 10-15 hours per week over two eleven-week academic terms.
- Shifts include attending three hours of classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays with additional hours that may vary per week and are determined in consultation with the supervisor.
- Renewable (September-June) based on departmental needs and employee performance review.
- In addition to an hourly wage, the fellowship provides studio space, access to departmental facilities, and exhibition opportunities.
Nature of duties
- Teaching Assistant for wheel throwing classes.
- Assist department with meeting MiOSHA/OSHA specifications.
- Monitor condition of studio space and equipment; gather supplies
- Facilitate work orders for repairs.
- Work alongside, train, and supervise work study students.
- Maintain effective communication with multiple constituencies (students, faculty/staff, facilities management).
- Assist with additional art department projects, as time allows.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree with coursework in ceramics is required.
- Extensive ceramics experience and knowledge of contemporary safety standards for ceramics studios is required.
- Ability to lift boxes of clay, kiln shelves, and bags of raw materials is required.
- Understanding of ceramic materials, glazes, firing processes is expected.
- Organized, detail oriented, and reliable.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills required.
- Familiarity with power tools is desirable, but not required.
- Competency with Adobe Creative suite and Excel are helpful.
- Practicing studio artist interested in developing their portfolio is desirable.
