Position

Kalamazoo College is seeking talented, enthusiastic, creative professionals to work in the Office of Admission. The admission team at Kalamazoo plays a vital role in sustaining the life of the College and takes a collaborative approach to recruiting a talented, diverse, and unique student body. The successful candidate’s primary role is in building relationships with students and their families, alumni, as well as members of our faculty and staff. The counselors will successfully represent The College and its distinctive K-Plan, commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, and its exceptional community. These positions will have territory management responsibilities, including, but not limited to the identification, recruitment, selection, and enrollment of prospective students from specific geographic regions. The ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends is required. Multiple weeks of non-concurrent travel should be expected, with the possibility of other travel throughout the year.

Reporting to the senior associate director of Admission, this benefits-eligible role is primarily conducted in person and will be housed at the Office of Admission. Office hours are Monday through Friday. This is an exempt position, as such, the work schedule may vary depending on job responsibilities. Often communication with prospective students and their families will occur outside of regular office hours. Other recruitment activities will include staffing on-campus and off-campus events, attending special programs, and meeting with our guests as they visit campus.

Candidates with 2-5 years of relevant experience and/or advanced education may be considered for the Assistant Director role. The Assistant Director will take on significant projects and program coordination within the office, and other duties as assigned. 

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and a desire to contribute to a professional environment built on positivity, energetic, dynamic, high-functioning teamwork to achieve a shared goal, as well as many of the traits listed below.

  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for a liberal arts and sciences education; ability to establish rapport easily with a wide variety of people
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, oral communication, and oral presentations
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred
  • Compose and edit correspondence, proposals, and reports that may require the ability to relay complex or adverse information with tact and diplomacy
  • Competence in information technology and electronic communication, and ability to utilize this format for interacting with prospective students and parents
  • High level of competency desired in Microsoft Office, Technolutions Slate, and ability to learn and stay current on new software
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Critical reasoning, sound judgment, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Understanding and following of MIAA and NCAA rules, and Understanding of and commitment to working within the framework of the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with College policy
  • Must have successful completion of criminal record check
  • Requires standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, lifting up to 25 pounds, bending and reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
