This is a summary of the annual report of the Kalamazoo College Retirement Healthcare Savings Program (Employer
Identification Number 38-1358014, Plan Number 509) for the plan year 01/01/2024 through 12/31/2024. The annual report has
been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act
of 1974 (ERISA).
Insurance Information
The plan has insurance contracts with Aetna Life Insurance Company to pay certain health, dental, and prescription
drug claims incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the plan year ending 12/31/2023 were $379,449.
Basic Financial Statement
Plan expenses were $697,728. These expenses included $25,937 in administrative expenses, $281,920 in benefits paid to participants and beneficiaries, and $389,871 in insurance carriers for the provision of benefits. A total of 305 persons were participants in or beneficiaries of the plan at the end of the plan year, although not all of these persons had yet earned the right to receive benefits.
The value of plan assets, after subtracting liabilities was $4,062,234 as of December 31, 2024, compared to $3,705,904 as of January 1, 2024. During the plan year the plan experienced an increase in its net assets of $356,330. This increase includes unrealized appreciation and depreciation in the value of plan assets; that is, the difference between the value of the plan’s assets at the end of the year and the value of the assets at the beginning of the year or the cost of assets acquired during the year. During the plan year, the plan had total income of $1,054,058 including employer contributions of $606, 104, employee contributions of $71,417, investment income of $311, 463, and net investment gain of $65,704.
