Immediate Supervisor: Financial Reporting Manager

Scope:

Perform general accounting functions through account analysis, monthly journal entries, preparation of various analytical reports, and the budget process. Specific responsibility for investment accounting processes, bank reconciliations, cash management and other duties to support and maintain quality in the activities of the accounting department, as well as uphold the mission and values established by Kalamazoo College. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership, faculty and staff that is recognized a sultimately contributing to the student experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.

2. Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements.

3. Reconcile, prepare and enter journal entries on a monthly basis.

4. Produce financial analysis reports as requested.

5. Prepare assigned balance sheet account reconciliations.

6. Responsible for Banking processes and Cash Projections.

7. Assist Financial Reporting Manager with accounting for investments, endowments and restricted funds.

8. Responsible for Liability Insurance accounting to include the collection and scanning of reports and providing data upon request.

9. Assist with external audit schedules and data requests.

10. Acts as backup for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.

11. Responsible for Fixed Asset procedures and reporting.

12. Assists with Foreign tax tracking and reporting.

13. Assist with process improvement, internal control, and risk mitigation for the college.

Job Specification:

Education

1. Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting or related field is required.

Experience

1. Four years of accounting experience is required

2. Four years of automated general ledger, excel, PowerPoint and word processing applications is required.

3. Higher Education or nonprofit experience is preferred.

1. Understanding and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, effective communication techniques both written and verbal, stress management and skills for dealing with complex issues.

2. Knowledgeable and strong in oral and written communication.

3. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in an effective and timely manner.

4. Ability to articulate and demonstrate commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of the organization

Essential Physical Abilities/Motor Skills

1. Sedentary Work: Frequently required to stand, kneel and crouch. On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs and bend. Is occasionally required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

2. Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.

3. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement and be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently.

4. Speaking/Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.

Essential Technical Abilities

1. Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment

2. Advanced proficiency with excel.

3. Ability to access, create, send and retrieve data from all systems.

Essential Mental Abilities

1. Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced office environment.

2. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.

3. Ability to effectively problem solve.

4. Ability to comprehend basic statistics and financial documents for purposes of preparing and analyzing financial reports.
