Position Summary
The part-time driver supports the Center for Civic Engagement by safely transporting members of the College community to and from designated locations within the Kalamazoo community. This role involves operating College vehicles including cars, minivans, and 12-passenger vans, while providing excellent customer service and ensuring passenger safety and comfort. Shifts are generally available during the academic year between the hours of 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate College vehicles to transport students, staff, and other passengers as assigned
- Adhere to all traffic laws and College transportation policies
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness
- Follow designated routes and schedules, and adjust plans as necessary to ensure timely arrivals
- Communicate promptly with the Operations Manager regarding scheduling, vehicle maintenance issues, or delays
- Provide courteous, professional, and helpful service to all passengers
- Perform duties in varying weather conditions and temperatures
Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate many of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics:
- Minimum of one (1) year of passenger driving experience
- Clean driving record that meets College policy requirements, including the Transportation Policy.
- Flexible availability, Monday through Friday; occasional evening or weekend work is optional
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with using GPS, and following written or verbal directions
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong commitment to safety
