Position Summary

The Kalamazoo College Counseling Center offers a wide range of services including individual and group counseling, daily walk-in counseling, crisis intervention, as well as outreach programming. Counselor/Therapists work with students individually on a wide range of issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, stress, parental or family concerns, identity including gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual assault, trauma, and more. This is a 10-month full-time position with 12 month per year compensation and expected 8 weeks off in summer. Open to considering part time as well.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Individual and group counseling and psychotherapy services to undergraduates.
• Presentation and coordination of outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops focused on the prevention of sexual assault, issues of diversity and inclusion, college student development, and mental health concerns and enhancement.
• Walk-in crisis intervention and de-escalation.
• Consultation services to students, parents, faculty and staff, and outside professionals.
• Liaison work with campus groups and constituencies.

Qualifications

Must be licensed or license-eligible in the State of Michigan. In addition to holding Master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling, the successful candidate will possess many of the qualities below.

• Experience (at least two years) in providing psychological services (individual and group) in college/university counseling center setting preferred.
• Competency in group psychotherapy and outreach programming.
• Ability to interact effectively with students, administrators, faculty, and staff.
• Knowledge of the unique mental health issues of diverse clients, including individuals from ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds, individuals representing varying sexual orientations and gender identities, and international students.
• Experience in working with victims of trauma and sexual violence preferred.
• The ability to deal with serious and sensitive issues in a highly confidential manner.
• The skills to build relationships and trust across a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, and parents.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• A strong commitment to advancing diversity.
• The ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
