The Training Director/Therapist in the Counseling Center at Kalamazoo College is a 10-month, full-time with 12-month per year compensation and benefits, and expected eight weeks off in the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Individual and group counseling and psychotherapy services to undergraduates.
  • Supervision of clinical activities of counseling center interns and/or limited licensed staff through individual and/or group supervision and review of clinical records to ensure interns and staff are adhering to professional standards and expectations.
  • Onboarding and continual training of counseling center interns and/or limited licensed staff.
  • Presentation and coordination of outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops focused on the prevention of sexual assault, issues of diversity and inclusion, college student development, and mental health concerns and enhancement.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Consultation services to students, parents, faculty and staff, and outside professionals.
  • Liaison work with campus groups and constituencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling required. 
  • Must be independently licensed in the State of Michigan.
  • Must possess the relevant credentials to provide supervision to mental health professionals in the State of Michigan.
  • Experience supervising mental health professionals.
  • Experience (at least three years) in providing psychological services (individual and group) in college/university counseling center or related setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated maturity in leadership and decision-making.
  • Competency in group psychotherapy and outreach programming.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of the unique mental health issues of diverse clients, including individuals from ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds, individuals representing varying sexual orientations and gender identities, and international students.
  • The ability to deal with serious and sensitive issues in a highly confidential manner.
  • The skills to build relationships and trust across a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to advancing diversity.
  • The ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
