Position Summary

The Community Manager works as part of a small team to develop programming that advances social justice through education and capacity building. Reporting to the executive director, the successful candidate will bring initiative, a high degree of administrative, logistical, and organizational skill. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse constituencies, flexibility, attention to detail, commitment to our mission, and willingness to work creatively with changing circumstances and hours in a busy department. The Community Manager administratively supports the Executive Director as needed.

This is a full-time, twelve-month, benefits-eligible position that requires some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

Provides accurate and timely support for a broad range of ACSJL functions, including the following:

  • BUILDING MANAGEMENT
    • Maintain ACSJL spaces to ensure a welcoming environment.
    • Greet guests when they enter the building and provide information/orientation upon request.
    • Order supplies, submit and follow-up with work orders, set up in-house technology.
    • Identify and resolve immediate operations issues in the building and guest house.
  • EVENT ASSISTANCE
    • Serve as part of ACSJL team in brainstorming, planning, and implementation of social justice leadership projects and events.
    • Help execute promotion and outreach plans for ACSJL programs.
    • Serve as a resource for individual students, faculty, staff and community members who are planning co-sponsored or partnership events.
    • Manage systems for event support and reservation requests.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE
    • Together in communication with the executive director and associate director, prepare center budgets, pay bills, monitor expenditures, request payments, and compile budget reports.
    • Serve as logistics support for guests and public-facing and/or campus-facing events.
    • Regularly review and update the website and other communication platforms.
    • Schedules appointments and reconciles credit card expenses for the Executive Director.
  • PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community groups and organizations in Kalamazoo
    • Serve as liaison and contribute to social justice program development in collaboration with community groups and organizations in Kalamazoo
    • Stay abreast of news and developments related to community groups and organizations in Kalamazoo

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess many of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics:

  • Must have a strong passion for and experience in social justice work and the ability to connect with all kinds of people.
  • Experience and interest in hospitality and space management.
  • Must have strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, including with student workers.
  • Experience and/or interest in working with a wide range of people of different races, genders, sexualities, ages, nationalities and life experiences.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize among multiple responsibilities and stay focused amidst competing priorities.
  • Strong time management and workspace organization skills; promptness and consistency in the workplace are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills, good judgment and decision-making skills; ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Computer skills, including accurate typing and data entry, ability to apply word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, and to use internet and social media resources.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel; Outlook, PowerPoint, Campaign Monitor, database systems and/or Canva experience helpful. Comfort to learn new technology.
  • Physical requirements include ability to:
    • work in an office and campus environment with extensive use of computer and telephone
    • read, write and handle paper documents
    • lift up to twenty pounds
    • move between and within various campus buildings
  • A sense of humor, flexibility and an inquisitive mind will be significant assets in this position.
