Maintenance Technician

Kalamazoo College is seeking a Maintenance Technician to play a key role in keeping our campus running smoothly by performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks. đź”— Apply via Indeed

In this role, you will:

  • Perform general upkeep of campus buildings, equipment, and grounds
  • Complete light plumbing, electrical, HVAC support, and carpentry tasks
  • Repair drywall, paint, and handle general carpentry needs
  • Conduct major appliance repairs
  • Assist with landscaping and grounds maintenance
  • Manage waste and recycling tasks
  • Move furniture and support event set‑ups
  • Complete daily tasks and assigned work orders under the Technical Trades Coordinator
  • Collaborate with Technical and Architectural Trades teams on planned maintenance
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively
  • Work independently and maintain a clean work area after tasks

You’re a great fit if you have:

We’re seeking someone with a high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience in building or property maintenance, or a related trade. Ideal candidates bring:

  • Experience with lighting and basic electrical repair
  • Skills in plumbing, carpentry, painting, and appliance repair
  • Mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving ability, and basic math skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort using a maintenance management system
  • A valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • A commitment to safety and the ability to work overtime or respond to after‑hours emergencies

Preferred (but not required) qualifications include HVAC experience or certifications (NATE or EPA 608), purchasing or budgeting experience, and a background in waste management or grounds operations.
