Primary Objective

Kalamazoo College is seeking talented, enthusiastic, and creative professionals who bring a unique perspective and a positive, can-do attitude to our Office of Admission. The ideal candidate will be upbeat, solutions-oriented, and energized by engaging with students and families throughout the college search process.

The admissions team at Kalamazoo plays a vital role in sustaining the life of the College and takes a collaborative, student-centered approach to recruiting a talented, diverse, and dynamic student body. We’re looking for team players who thrive in a fast-paced environment, embrace new ideas, and bring genuine excitement to their work.

Reporting to the assistant director of admission, this benefits-eligible position is highly front-facing and will include territory management focused on the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of prospective students. Candidates should be confident travelers, comfortable representing the College in a variety of settings, and eager to build meaningful connections with students, families, and school counselors. This role requires frequent one-on-one and group interactions—both in person and virtually.

Travel is a key component of the role, with several weeks expected between August and November, one to two weeks in March and April, and the potential for additional travel throughout the year. Evening and weekend work will also be required at times. In addition to travel, team members will engage with campus visitors daily while in the office, helping create a warm, welcoming, and informative experience for all who step through our doors.

Location & Schedule

This role is primarily conducted in person and will be housed at the Office of Admission. Office hours are Monday through Friday. This is an exempt position, as such, the work schedule may vary depending on job responsibilities.

Who are we seeking

This is an entry level position, and as such, 1-4 years of professional experience is appropriate.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and will also demonstrate many of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics:

  • Desire to contribute to a professional environment built on positivity, energetic, dynamic, high functioning teamwork to achieve a shared goal
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for a liberal arts and sciences education; ability to establish rapport easily with a wide variety of people
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, oral communication, and oral presentations
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred
  • Compose and edit correspondence, proposals and reports that may require the ability to relay complex or adverse information with tact and diplomacy
  • Competence in information technology and electronic communication, and ability to utilize this format for interacting with prospective students and parents
  • High level of competency desired in Microsoft Office, Technolutions Slate, and ability to learn and stay current on new software
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Critical reasoning, sound judgment and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Understanding and following of MIAA and NCAA rules and understanding of and commitment to working within the framework of the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with College policy
  • Must have successful completion of criminal record check
  • Requires standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, lifting to 25 pounds, bending and reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
